How STM Started

STM was founded by director Andre Simon in 2002. Andre has always had an addiction to motorsport, getting involved in kart racing at the age of just 13, and building his first kart engine at the age of 15. Through his teenage years, Andre continued developing his skills as he moved from karts into turbocharged Japanese performance cars, always experimenting with new ideas to improve power and response. With a technical background and a strong knowledge of engine principles, it was only natural that Andre developed an interest in engine tuning and specifically electronic engine management systems.

After graduating from Massey University with a Bachelor of Technology with Honours, Andre started working on his Masters degree. At the same time he started offering his skills tuning cars for friends and family to help fund his university costs. Through his contacts in the Wellington motorsport community Andre quickly found himself too busy to complete his Masters Degree, and made the decision to concentrate on Speedtech Motorsport full time.

The Early Years

Speedtech quickly started to make waves in the New Zealand with their shop car ‘DOCILE’, a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 3, which held the record as the World’s fastest EVO for several years. While the car has since been retired, the 1200+ hp weapon firmly established Speedtech’s capabilities and helped them achieve an enviable international reputation.

In the years since Speedtech Motorsport first opened its doors the business has grown in leaps and bounds. Originally operating out of a shared workshop, STM is now located in a 1000 square metre building in Seaview which includes a state-of-the-art 4WD dyno cell and a fully equipped mechanical workshop.

In 2006 STM teamed up with Auckland-based Redline Performance who have become a major player in the New Zealand market, supplying aftermarket performance parts from manufacturers such as HKS and Turbosmart. This amalgamation provides STM customers with a fully stocked showroom of top brands, as well as the ability to have these parts fitted by the STM team.

Now

STM now employ five full time staff to keep up with customer demand, and is firmly established as New Zealand’s premier source for professional performance tuning, modification and servicing of your vehicle. The friendly team at STM have the experience and the technology to provide you with simply the best results possible from your performance dollar.
