Do you want to learn how to tune engines like a pro?
The world of performance engine tuning can be confusing and daunting. We find many keen novice tuners or performance enthusiasts who would love to pursue a career in engine tuning, but don’t know where to start. If this sounds like you then read on!
STM’s EFI Tuning Stage 1 course runs for 1 day and focuses on engine tuning theory backed up with a practical dyno demonstration(video) of the concepts taught. The course begins with the basic operation of the 4-stroke engine, and then moves onto the fundamental components of a modern electronic fuel injection system. Each input and output in the EFI system will be discussed with an emphasis on a friendly atmosphere which encourages discussion and interaction between you and the tutor.
After covering the basics, the course moves on to the techniques used to actually tune the engine. These are the hard-learned lessons that have come from STM’s experience tuning literally thousands of engines over the last 10 years. We will show you the tricks of the trade which let us achieve a perfect tune without risking damage to your engine.
In particular we will concentrate on the following areas:

Initial setup checks before beginning tuning

The correct approach to tuning your engine from start to finish

How to correctly set your ignition timing to achieve maximum power

How to choose the correct air/fuel ratio for your engine

How to compensate for air and coolant temperatures

Knowing how to recognise a problem, and tips on fault-finding
Is this course right for me?
STM’s EFI Tuning Stage 1 course is an entry level course which is ideal for anyone with an interest in EFI tuning. The course assumes a basic knowledge of engine operation principles, however no prior experience with tuning is necessary. We promote an open and friendly environment with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion. The course caters for anyone from a complete novice to an experienced tuner, so no question is too easy or too hard!
This course is ideally suited to DIY tuners, mechanics, anyone involved in motorsport, or anyone with an interest in EFI systems and professional engine tuning. Completion of this course will give a solid understanding of the principles of engine tuning, and provide the basic skills to start selecting and tuning your own EFI system.

About the Presenter
Andre’s skills as a world-class tuner are well proven by a number of world records held by STM’s customers. His skills are in demand both nationally and internationally with regular overseas tuning trips scheduled over the last several years. His technical skills are also well recognised and he is a technical contributor for NZPC, NZV8 and Australian Zoom magazine.
While simply having the tuning skills is only part of the picture, Andre has shown that he is also able to pass on his knowledge in a relaxed and friendly environment which embraces discussion and interaction. After running a series of highly acclaimed seminars for 4 & Rotary Promotions, Andre has stepped up to running a professional tuning workshop suitable for any budding tuner or home enthusiast.
